Meta’s Ray-Ban Smart Glasses Can Now Post Photos Directly to Instagram Stories
Meta has announced a significant update to its Ray-Ban smart glasses, introducing new hands-free functionalities that include the ability to share images directly to Instagram Stories. This feature allows users to post photos without needing to use their smartphones, enhancing convenience and connectivity.
The new functionality enables users to upload images to Instagram Stories by voice command. After capturing a photo with the smart glasses, users can simply say, “Hey Meta, share my last photo to Instagram,” or “Hey Meta, post a photo to Instagram” to capture and share a new image instantly.
This update draws comparisons to Snap Spectacles, which were launched in 2016 and allowed users to share photos and videos directly to Snapchat Stories. However, Meta’s integration with Instagram marks a significant evolution in the capabilities of smart glasses.
In addition to Instagram integration, Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses now support Amazon Music. Users can stream music hands-free by saying, “Hey Meta, play Amazon Music,” and control playback through touch or voice commands, keeping their phones stowed away.
The glasses also offer integration with the Calm app, providing access to mindfulness exercises and self-care content. Users can start these sessions by saying, “Hey Meta, play the Daily Calm,” making it easier to engage in relaxation and meditation routines.
Meta is also expanding the availability of these smart glasses to more countries and introducing new styles. These include Skyler in Shiny Chalky Gray with Gradient Cinnamon Pink Lenses, Skyler in Shiny Black with Transitions Cerulean Blue Lenses, and Headliner Low Bridge Fit in Shiny Black with Polar G15 Lenses. The glasses are available on Meta’s and Ray-Ban’s websites across 15 countries, including the U.S., Canada, Australia, and parts of Europe.
This latest update follows a recent enhancement that added multimodal AI capabilities to the smart glasses. This AI functionality allows users to ask the glasses questions about their surroundings, such as translating text from a menu. The glasses can also identify landmarks and describe objects in the environment, offering valuable assistance to travelers. Additionally, the smart glasses now support hands-free video calls via WhatsApp and Messenger.
