Locate Missing Or Deleted Files In Google Drive Desktop

A sync issue in Google Drive for desktop versions 84.0.0.0–84.0.4.0 caused turmoil among users as numerous files mysteriously disappeared. To combat this, Google released version 85.0.13.0 of the Drive for Desktop program, which not only fixes the sync issue but also includes a new file recovery tool.

What is the purpose of this file recovery function in Drive for Desktops?
The file recovery tool in Drive for desktop is a new built-in tool that allows users to do a full scan within Google Drive and recover files that have gone missing for any reason, including data that has gone missing due to sync issues in prior versions. The feature analyzes the drive for missing data from backups and recovers it in a folder called Recover from Backups.

Here’s how to use this feature.

Open Drive for Desktop: Start the Open Drive for desktop program on your device. It is normally found in your list of installed programs or applications.

Go to the Menu Bar or the System Tray: Locate the menu bar (for Mac users) at the top of your screen or the system tray (for Windows users) at the bottom right corner. Icons for running apps and utilities are often found on the system tray.

Click on the Drive desktop icon: Locate the Drive for desktop icon in the menu bar or system tray. Click it to access a menu or reveal further application-related options.

Press and hold the Shift key: Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard.

Click on Settings: While holding down the Shift key, click on the “Settings” option within the Drive for desktop menu. This key combination may unlock additional or advanced settings within the application.

Choose “Recover from Backups”: A submenu or window with advanced settings should display. Find and choose the “Recover from Backups” option. This feature allows you to restore files or data from previously stored backups.

Access the recovery feature: You should now have access to the recovery feature after selecting the “Recover from Backups” option. To explore through available backups and retrieve specific files or data, follow the on-screen instructions or prompts.
