YouTube Music Introduces ‘Hum to Search’ Feature on Android

YouTube Music has unveiled a new feature for its Android app that promises to revolutionize how users identify songs. The feature, aptly named “Hum to Search,” allows users to find songs by simply humming, singing, whistling, or playing a recording of a melody. This innovation aims to be a strong competitor to Shazam and other similar services.

How to Use ‘Hum to Search’

If you have the latest update of the YouTube Music app, you’ll notice a new waveform icon next to the microphone icon when you tap the search button in the upper right corner. This waveform icon is your gateway to the ‘Hum to Search’ feature. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use it:

1. Open the YouTube Music App: Launch the app on your Android device.

2. Tap the Search Icon: Locate and tap the search button, typically represented by a magnifying glass.

3. Look for the Waveform Icon: Next to the search bar or the microphone icon, you’ll see a new waveform icon. This icon activates the ‘Hum to Search’ feature.

4. Hum, Sing, or Whistle the Tune: Press and hold the waveform icon, then start humming, singing, or whistling the melody of the song you’re trying to identify. The clearer and longer the melody, the better the app’s accuracy.

5. View the Results: After you finish, YouTube Music will analyze the audio and display potential song matches. Tap on the most likely match to see the full song and artist information.

Performance and Accuracy

During testing, the feature demonstrated impressive capabilities, swiftly identifying recordings with remarkable speed. When it came to humming, singing, or whistling, YouTube Music accurately identified most of the songs, though there were a few amusing inaccuracies.

A New Era for Music Discovery

The addition of ‘Hum to Search’ brings YouTube Music in line with other leading music identification services, providing a convenient and innovative tool for users who often find themselves struggling to recall song lyrics. This feature is a significant enhancement for Android users who rely on YouTube Music for discovering new music, making it easier than ever to find songs with just a few notes.

With this new feature, YouTube Music strengthens its position as a comprehensive music streaming service, offering advanced tools for music discovery and identification.
