WhatsApp Launches New Feature “Favorites”

WhatsApp has officially launched its new “Favorites” filter, now available to users on the stable channel. This feature is designed to help users quickly find and connect with their most important contacts.

The Favorites filter allows users to manage their favorite contacts by navigating to Settings → Favorites → Add to Favorites. Alternatively, users can add favorites directly within the chat and call sections. As WhatsApp is rolling out this feature gradually, users should ensure they have the latest version of the app to access it.

WhatsApp, one of the leading messaging apps for both Android and iOS, continuously introduces new features to enhance user experience. Recently, the app added voice message transcription to its Android version and is planning to integrate Google Translate into chats. The new Favorites filter further improves connectivity by organizing important chats and facilitating quick calls.

Released on Tuesday, the Favorites filter will be accessible to all users within a few weeks. It consolidates chats from close friends and family into one easily accessible section. Additionally, a Favorites section has been added to the calls tab for quick dialing, bypassing the need to search through recent call logs or contact lists.

To add a contact or group to your Favorites list, select the Favorites filter from the chats screen or use the “Add favorite” option in the calls tab. Chats can also be added to Favorites by long-tapping and selecting “Add to favorite.” Users can manage their favorite contacts and groups by navigating to Settings > Favorites > Add to Favorite and can reorder them as needed.

The Favorites feature was initially tested on iOS and the web in February and appeared on Android in April. This update follows the introduction of chat filters three months ago, which included “All,” “Unread,” and “Groups” filters. The addition of the Favorites filter enhances these functionalities, providing a more efficient way to connect with key contacts.

WhatsApp’s new Favorites filter offers a speed-dial-like functionality within the calls tab, streamlining the process of filtering out favorite contacts from long chat lists. Users can add both groups and individual chats to the Favorites filter, ensuring that their favorite contacts are easily accessible across chats and calls.

This feature, first seen in the beta version in March, is now rolling out to all users. If you haven’t received the update yet, don’t worry—WhatsApp assures that it will be available to everyone soon. Just make sure to keep your app updated to the latest version.
