TikTok Tests 60-Minute Video Uploads
TikTok has begun testing the ability for users to upload 60-minute videos, the company confirmed to TechCrunch on Thursday. This new feature is currently available to a limited group of users in select markets, with no immediate plans for a broader rollout.
First identified by social media consultant Matt Navarra, this development signifies a major shift from TikTok’s original format. Initially, the app allowed only 15-second videos. Over the years, however, TikTok has gradually increased this limit. While the platform gained popularity through its short-form video format, it has been gradually adopting longer content to challenge YouTube, one of its main competitors.
TikTok’s motivation for extending the video length stems from creator feedback. The company notes that while creators can currently link multipart stories, there is a demand for longer, uninterrupted content. Creators want more time for cooking demonstrations, beauty tutorials, educational lessons, comedic sketches, and other types of content.
The 60-minute video upload feature aims to provide creators with the flexibility to experiment with new or expanded content types. By enabling longer videos, TikTok hopes to attract creators who traditionally post on YouTube, encouraging them to share their content on TikTok as well.
This extended time limit could also introduce new content forms to the platform, such as full episodes of TV shows. Last year, Peacock released the first episode of “Killing It” on TikTok in five parts. With the 60-minute limit, such episodes could be uploaded in one piece, eliminating the need for fragmentation.
Many networks already leverage YouTube by uploading the first episodes of TV shows to attract viewers. The increased upload limit on TikTok could entice them to do the same on this platform. Networks are already engaging with audiences on TikTok, and the new feature could encourage them to share more extensive content.
While longer videos might not appeal to all TikTok users, the company has been enhancing the viewing experience for long-form content. TikTok has been testing a horizontal full-screen mode and video-scrubbing thumbnails. Additionally, a feature rolled out last year allows users to fast-forward videos by holding down the right side of the screen.
As with any experimental feature, it remains uncertain when or if TikTok will make the 60-minute video upload option widely available.

Max’s Password-Sharing Crackdown: What It Means for Viewers
Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming platform, Max, is preparing to implement a significant change: a crackdown on password sharing, following Netflix’s lead. As competition and the need for profitability increase in the streaming industry, Max aims to restrict account sharing to household members. This policy is currently being tested, with a gradual rollout expected throughout 2024 and 2025.
Why Crack Down Now?
Warner Bros. Discovery views password sharing as a missed revenue opportunity. With over 97 million users across Max and Discovery+, limiting shared accounts could boost profits. According to JB Perrette, head of the company’s streaming division, password sharing dilutes service value by reducing the number of paying subscribers and impacting profitability.
What Will Change for Users?
Max users may soon start seeing notifications if they share accounts outside their households, prompting them to either stop sharing or pay an additional fee. The enforcement will likely begin with reminders and alerts, transitioning to stricter limits over time. Max may eventually restrict shared access to specific plans or limit access for users outside of the household.
Max’s password-sharing crackdown is part of a broader trend across streaming services. Disney+ and Hulu are also exploring similar restrictions, a move reflecting the industry’s drive to improve profitability. As companies aim to convert shared users into paying subscribers, the shift could reshape subscription models and pricing strategies across the streaming market.
The success of this approach depends heavily on user response. Warner Bros. Discovery hopes to increase revenue by converting non-paying users, enabling it to invest further in original content. For users, this policy change could mean reconsidering how they access and pay for streaming, signaling a new era of tighter controls in the industry.

Vivo V40e Leaks Ahead of September Launch
As Vivo gears up for the launch of its highly anticipated Vivo V40e, leaks and rumors have surfaced, giving tech enthusiasts a glimpse into what to expect. Scheduled for release by the end of September 2024, the Vivo V40e promises to offer a blend of premium features at a more affordable price point. Here’s a detailed look at the leaked specifications and design highlights of this upcoming device.
Design and Display
One of the standout features of the Vivo V40e is its ultra-slim 3D curved design. The device will reportedly be available in a striking “Royal Bronze” color option, giving it a premium look. Its sleek design doesn’t compromise on the display either; the phone is expected to sport an OLED screen with a peak brightness of 4,500 nits. This makes it ideal for both indoor and outdoor use, delivering vibrant colors and sharp details.
Performance
Under the hood, the Vivo V40e is rumored to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset, paired with at least 8GB of RAM. This setup promises smooth performance for everyday tasks and moderate gaming. The device will run on FunTouch OS 14, based on Android 14, ensuring users get the latest software experience right out of the box.
Battery and Fast Charging
Despite its slim profile, the Vivo V40e is expected to pack a large 5,500mAh battery, supported by 80W flash charging. This should offer users extended battery life while significantly reducing charging time, making it a reliable companion for those on the go.
Positioning and Price
The Vivo V40e is designed to cater to the mid-range market, with pricing expected to be lower than its predecessors, such as the Vivo V40 and V40 Pro. While the exact price remains under wraps, analysts predict it will fall within the sub-Rs 30,000 range, making it an attractive option for buyers seeking high-end features at a more affordable price.
The Vivo V40e appears to be a well-rounded smartphone, with its combination of sleek design, powerful performance, and fast charging capabilities. As more details emerge closer to the official launch, it will be interesting to see how the device fares in an increasingly competitive market.
