Google’s Gemini Now Capable of Controlling YouTube Music on PC and Android

Google has significantly enhanced its Gemini AI chatbot by rolling out a new extension that integrates YouTube Music. This update, available on both desktop and Android platforms, allows users to find, play, and control music directly from YouTube Music through Gemini.

Previously, Google Assistant held a distinct advantage over Gemini due to its music control capabilities. However, with this new extension, Gemini has closed the gap, providing similar functionalities. First reported by 9to5Google, the extension is now accessible to all Gemini users, although it is disabled by default and must be activated manually.

Activating the Extension

To enable the YouTube Music extension, users need to visit https://gemini.google.com/extensions on either their PC or Android phone. Once activated, the extension can be utilized through the Gemini website or the Android mobile app by entering prompts in English.

Using the Extension

With the extension enabled, users can ask Gemini to “show, find, or play music from YouTube Music.” Specific commands such as “Find [song name] by [artist]” allow the chatbot to locate and play desired tracks. Additionally, Gemini supports various playback controls, including: Pause, Resume or play, Stop, Skip or next, Previous, Restart or go back.

Google has noted that background play on Android devices is limited to YouTube Music Premium members.

Current Limitations

Despite the wide rollout, the extension’s functionality on PC is not fully operational yet. Currently, users attempting to play music on a PC will receive a message stating, “I can’t assist you with playing media yet, but I can provide you with a link to the song on YouTube Music.”

This YouTube Music extension for Gemini, which was first identified earlier this month, represents a significant enhancement to the chatbot’s capabilities. While it would have been advantageous to have this functionality from the start, its introduction now offers a more robust user experience for Gemini users across multiple platforms.

Nubia Flip 2 Certification Listings Leak, Revealing Key Specs and Design

The Nubia Flip 2, the next foldable smartphone from ZTE’s Nubia sub-brand, has surfaced in certification databases, including the IMEI database and China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). These listings have unveiled key specifications and provided a glimpse into the design of this foldable device.

The Nubia Flip II retains the compact and elegant form factor of its predecessor while introducing substantial design enhancements. One of the most striking updates is the secondary screen, which has transitioned from a circular display to a larger, vertically oriented rectangular panel. Measuring 3 inches and featuring a resolution of 422 x 682 pixels, this AMOLED display is designed to provide a more functional interface for notifications and quick interactions. Complementing this is the primary display, a 6.85-inch AMOLED panel with a high resolution of 1,188 x 2,970 pixels. Though slightly smaller than the Nubia Flip 5G’s 6.9-inch screen, it offers crisp visuals and immersive usability.

ZTE has also made thoughtful adjustments to the phone’s physical dimensions. When unfolded, the Nubia Flip II measures 169.4 x 76 x 7.2 mm and weighs just 193 grams, making it noticeably lighter than its predecessor, which tipped the scales at 214 grams. Its main display features a punch-hole cutout housing a 32 MP selfie camera, ensuring minimal interference with the viewing experience.

The camera system has undergone a complete redesign. Unlike the Nubia Flip 5G’s circular camera arrangement, the Flip II features a vertical alignment of two lenses—a 50 MP primary sensor and a 2 MP auxiliary module—accompanied by a round LED flash. This new configuration is positioned next to the secondary display, allowing for improved aesthetics and functionality.

Under the hood, the Nubia Flip II promises robust performance. While the chipset details are not confirmed, industry speculation points to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 as a potential candidate, ensuring significant upgrades in speed, multitasking, and gaming performance. Multiple RAM configurations, including 6 GB, 8 GB, and 12 GB, will cater to a wide range of users. The phone will run on Android 14, offering cutting-edge software features alongside support for 5G, dual-SIM functionality, Bluetooth, GPS, AGPS, and GLONASS navigation.

Powering the Nubia Flip II is a 4,225 mAh battery, a slight reduction from the 4,310 mAh capacity of the Nubia Flip 5G. While details about charging speeds remain undisclosed, the device is expected to at least match the previous model’s 33W fast-charging capability.

The Nubia Flip 5G, launched earlier in 2024, set a high standard with its Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset, up to 12 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of storage. Its dual-camera setup and innovative circular OLED secondary display were standout features. The Flip II aims to refine this foundation, introducing a more practical secondary screen, updated design, and improved usability.

Though ZTE has not officially announced a release date for the Nubia Flip II, its February launch timeline for the previous model suggests a Q1 2025 debut. As ZTE continues to push boundaries in the foldable smartphone space, the Nubia Flip II is shaping up to be a compelling option for users seeking cutting-edge design and functionality in a compact form factor.

iPhone 17 Series: All We Know from Recent Leaks and Rumors

The iPhone 17 series is already creating a buzz, with several leaks and rumors hinting at exciting developments. Among these developments is the expected introduction of four models: iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, and the ultra-slim iPhone 17 Air.

The iPhone 17 Air

The iPhone 17 Air, also referred to as the “Slim,” is anticipated to be the thinnest iPhone ever produced. Measuring between 5mm to 6mm thick, it surpasses the 6.9mm thickness of the iPhone 6. Apple aims to emulate the “Air” branding seen in the MacBook and iPad lines, emphasizing a sleek and lightweight aesthetic.

This model is rumored to feature a titanium-aluminum alloy frame, ensuring durability without compromising its svelte form. The rear camera will be a standout design element, moving to a centered position and featuring a single 48MP lens. Meanwhile, the front of the device is expected to house a narrower Dynamic Island, offering a refined and minimalist design.

The 6.6-inch AMOLED display on the iPhone 17 Air situates it between the Pro and Pro Max models in size, providing a balanced choice for users who prioritize portability and display real estate.

The Rest of the iPhone 17 Lineup

Standard iPhone 17

Apple plans to increase the screen size of the standard iPhone 17 to 6.3 inches, up from the 6.1 inches seen in previous models. This positions it as a middle ground between the existing iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. The Plus variant, however, will be discontinued due to underwhelming sales, consolidating the lineup.

Pro Models: Design and Hardware

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models will see significant design changes, including a return to aluminum frames, a material last used on high-end iPhones in 2017. Both models will continue to set benchmarks in camera technology, with the Pro Max reportedly featuring an upgraded 48MP Tetraprism Telephoto lens for exceptional zoom capabilities.

Display and Camera

All models in the iPhone 17 lineup are expected to adopt 120Hz ProMotion technology, ensuring ultra-smooth scrolling and video playback. Additionally, Apple is rumored to introduce anti-reflective, scratch-resistant displays, enhancing durability and usability in various lighting conditions.

A universal upgrade across the series includes a 24MP front camera with a six-element lens, offering sharper and more detailed selfies. Pro models will boast multiple 48MP rear cameras, while the iPhone 17 Air will focus on a streamlined single-lens system.

Advanced Hardware Enhancements

A19 Chipset

The iPhone 17 series will likely feature Apple’s A19 chipset, built on TSMC’s enhanced 3nm N3P process. This architecture promises improved performance and efficiency compared to its predecessors. Pro models may include the A19 Pro variant for even greater capabilities.

RAM and Modems

The Pro models are expected to feature 12GB RAM, a significant increase from the current 8GB in iPhone 15 Pro models. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Air and standard models will include 8GB RAM. Notably, Apple is set to debut its in-house 5G modem in the iPhone 17 Air, reducing its reliance on Qualcomm.

Battery and Audio

The iPhone 17 Air will house an ultra-thin battery measuring just 6mm, necessitating clever engineering to maintain a balance between slimness and longevity. Audio adjustments may include a single speaker at the top of the device, as the slim design leaves no room for the dual-speaker setup found in current models.

Launch Timeline and Pricing

The iPhone 17 series is slated for release in September 2025, adhering to Apple’s traditional annual launch cycle. Pricing for the iPhone 17 Air remains uncertain, but it could fall between the standard and Pro models, offering an attractive option for users seeking premium design without the full Pro price tag.
