Google to Roll Out AI-Powered Editing Tools, Including Magic Editor, to All Google Photos Users for Free

Google is set to revolutionize photo editing for its users with the introduction of advanced AI-powered tools, previously exclusive to Pixel devices and paid subscribers. The tech giant announced on Wednesday that features such as Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, Portrait Light, and more will now be accessible to all Google Photos users at no additional cost.

Historically, these editing tools have been reserved for high-end Pixel phones and Google One subscribers, but with the increasing availability of AI-powered editing tools in the market, Google has decided to democratize access to its suite of features.

The most significant addition is Magic Editor, which utilizes generative AI to perform complex edits like filling gaps in photos, repositioning subjects, and altering foreground or background elements. This tool, previously introduced with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, allows users to transform images with ease, whether it’s changing skies, removing unwanted objects, or enhancing overall composition.

While Pixel devices will have full access to Magic Editor, iOS and Android users meeting the necessary hardware requirements will receive 10 Magic Editor saves per month. Beyond that limit, users will need to subscribe to a Premium Google One plan, offering 2TB of storage or more.

Other notable features included in the expansion are Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, Sky suggestions, Color pop, HDR effect for photos and videos, Portrait Blur, Cinematic Photos, and various styles in the Collage Editor and Video Effects.

However, there are some limitations to consider. The rollout of these tools will commence on May 15, and it may take weeks for all Google Photos users to receive access. Additionally, certain hardware requirements must be met, such as specific ChromeOS versions for Chromebook users and minimum RAM specifications for mobile devices.

While some features like AI-powered Best Take will remain exclusive to Pixel 8 and 8 Pro users, the broader availability of Magic Editor and other editing tools marks a significant shift in Google’s approach to photo editing accessibility.

Google’s decision to make these advanced editing features freely available underscores its commitment to leveraging AI technology to enhance user experience across its products and services. With Magic Editor at the forefront, users can expect a new level of creativity and convenience in their photo editing endeavors.
