Google Play Store Introduces Badge for Government Apps to Boost User Trust

Notable government agencies such as NASA, FEMA, and IRS2Go are among the entities receiving the badge.

The badge itself is a recognizable icon depicting a building, accompanied by the word “Government” underneath it. Positioned prominently next to the app’s rating, users can easily identify official government apps. Tapping on the badge provides users with a message confirming the app’s affiliation with a government entity, further reassuring them of its authenticity.

Google’s decision to introduce this badge stems from its commitment to amplifying the highest-quality apps on the platform, announced back in November 2023. After testing the feature with a limited number of users, the company is now making it available to all users, effective immediately.

This move comes amidst concerns over the proliferation of fake government apps aiming to deceive users and potentially compromise their data or financial information.
