Honor Unveils Global Rollout of Advanced Eye-Tracking Technology on Magic 6 Pro
Honor is set to revolutionize smartphone interaction with the global rollout of its cutting-edge eye-tracking technology, initially showcased at the 2024 Mobile World Congress (MWC). This innovative feature, debuting on the Honor Magic 6 Pro, leverages artificial intelligence to create a more intuitive and accessible smartphone experience.
Honor’s new eye-tracking technology is more than just a novelty—it’s a significant advancement in making smartphones accessible to a broader audience, particularly individuals with mobility impairments. This “intent-based” system allows users to navigate their devices solely through eye movements, eliminating the need for physical touch. For individuals with conditions such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), who often retain control over eye movements even as other physical abilities decline, this technology offers a transformative way to interact with their devices.
The eye-tracking feature is embedded within Honor’s latest MagicOS 8.0 and uses AI to predict and execute the user’s intended actions. Whether it’s scrolling through apps, reading notifications, or simply unlocking the phone, the system makes interaction seamless and natural.
Global Rollout and Device Compatibility
Starting August 27, 2024, Honor will begin rolling out this feature globally via a software update to all Magic 6 Pro devices. This marks the first time that Honor’s eye-tracking technology will be available to users outside of China. While the initial rollout is exclusive to the Magic 6 Pro, there is speculation that Honor plans to introduce this technology in its future devices, given the significant investment in this innovation.
Honor’s commitment to AI-driven innovation doesn’t stop at eye-tracking. The company is also in the early stages of developing a brain-computer interface (BCI) system. This ambitious project aims to enable users to control external devices using brain signals, offering another groundbreaking option for individuals with severe mobility limitations. Although still in development, the BCI system represents Honor’s forward-thinking approach to technology that prioritizes accessibility and inclusivity.
In conjunction with the rollout, Honor has launched the #HONORtheChallenger campaign, a global initiative aimed at raising awareness about ALS and the importance of accessible technology. Supported by athletes and influencers, the campaign has already engaged millions worldwide, highlighting the potential of technology to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives.
Honor’s introduction of eye-tracking technology is a significant milestone in smartphone evolution, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with AI and accessibility. As this technology becomes available globally, it’s poised to not only enhance user interaction but also set a new standard in how smartphones can serve all users, regardless of their physical abilities.
