Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced the introduction of four new features to WhatsApp Channels. The first addition is the long-anticipated voice notes or audio messages, offering channel admins a new interactive tool. This feature has been in development since October last year, as indicated by version 2.23.23.2 of WhatsApp beta for Android.
Voice notes provide a fresh way for Channel admins to communicate with their followers, expanding the interaction beyond text messages and media sharing. The second addition is the inclusion of polls, allowing administrators to quickly assess the sentiments of their audience. While polls have been a mainstay in WhatsApp group chats, their introduction to channels is a logical step. Participants will have the flexibility to select multiple options simultaneously, as demonstrated in a poll shared by Zuckerberg.

Another noteworthy feature is the ability for channel owners to appoint multiple administrators, providing a practical solution for large corporations and brands needing constant communication with their customers. Lastly, Zuckerberg highlighted the option for users to add channel posts to their status. This feature, seen in a beta version released in December, allows developers to add context to status updates pulled from a channel update.
Although no specific timeline has been provided for the rollout of these features, it is evident that they have moved beyond the beta phase. The release is anticipated on WhatsApp’s stable version across Android, iOS, WhatsApp Web, and desktop apps. These enhancements primarily focus on channel owners, aiming to improve engagement between brands and their customers using WhatsApp’s one-way broadcasting tool
