Samsung has officially teased its first tri-fold smartphone at Galaxy Unpacked 2025!

Samsung has once again captured the tech world’s attention by officially teasing its first tri-fold smartphone. This exciting announcement was made during the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event, held in San Jose, where the company unveiled several new developments in its product lineup. Alongside the much-anticipated Galaxy S25 series, Samsung introduced the Galaxy S25 Edge and hinted at a range of innovative technologies, including smart glasses and a mixed-reality headset.

Samsung’s Tri-Fold Design

Samsung’s tri-fold smartphone is set to be a game-changer in the foldable device market. The company briefly referred to the device as “multi-fold” while showcasing its roadmap for the future, displaying a clear visual confirmation of the device on the big screen. Rumors suggest that this tri-fold phone will adopt a G-Type form factor, folding entirely inward. This design not only differentiates it from competitors like Huawei’s Mate X series but also offers enhanced protection for the primary screen when the device is not in use.

The unfolded display is expected to measure between 9.9 and 10 inches, putting it firmly in the tablet-sized category. This innovation combines the portability of a smartphone with the productivity of a tablet, appealing to a wide range of users.

Launch Timeline and Limited Production

While Samsung has not revealed a specific release date, insiders suggest that the tri-fold device could be launched in Q3 2025. It is expected to debut alongside refreshed versions of the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip. Production is rumored to begin in Q2 2025, with an initial limited run of approximately 200,000 units. This exclusivity indicates Samsung’s cautious approach to introducing such groundbreaking technology to the market.

Prototypes and Market Positioning

Samsung has been experimenting with tri-fold concepts for years, showcasing prototypes like the Flex G and Flex S at previous CES events. These prototypes hinted at the company’s ambition to push the boundaries of foldable technology. With this official teaser, Samsung is making it clear that the tri-fold smartphone will soon transition from concept to consumer-ready device.

The South Korean giant’s decision to develop a tri-fold phone was likely influenced by Huawei’s recent entry into this domain. By officially confirming its plans, Samsung demonstrates its commitment to maintaining a leading position in the competitive foldable market.

More Surprises from Galaxy Unpacked

In addition to the tri-fold smartphone, Samsung revealed the Galaxy S25 Edge, a sleek and slim device previously referred to as the Galaxy S25 Slim. The Edge is expected to launch later this year as a fourth variant in the Galaxy S25 lineup. Samsung also shared details about its collaboration with Google and Qualcomm on an AR headset, codenamed Project Moohan, and plans to develop smart glasses, further diversifying its portfolio of innovative products.
