Nubia has unveiled the Flip 2, its second foldable phone for 2025!

Nubia has officially launched its second foldable phone, the Nubia Flip 2, in Japan, marking its first foray into the foldable market for 2025. The previous generation, the original Nubia Flip, was launched in April of the previous year. This second iteration arrives earlier than expected and brings several notable upgrades over its predecessor, promising to offer enhanced features for users in search of an affordable foldable.

Design and Display

One of the most significant changes in the Nubia Flip 2 is the redesigned cover screen. The round screen from the original model has been replaced with a more conventional rectangular one. The new 3-inch cover screen boasts a resolution of 422 x 682 pixels, providing quick access to frequently used apps, notifications, and messages, all without the need to unfold the device. This feature makes the Flip 2 more convenient for users who value functionality at a glance.

The main screen is still a 6.9-inch AMOLED panel offering a 120Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution, ensuring a smooth and vibrant display experience. The internal screen is complemented by a 32MP front-facing camera, perfect for high-quality selfies and video calls. On the rear, the Flip 2 comes equipped with a dual-camera system, featuring a 50MP main sensor and a 2MP depth sensor, ideal for capturing sharp images and creating portrait shots with a blurred background effect.

Performance and Features

Under the hood, the Nubia Flip 2 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300X chipset, specifically designed for dual-display smartphones like this foldable. The device is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which, while not designed for extreme performance, is more than adequate for day-to-day tasks, including browsing, media consumption, and social media. However, for those expecting top-tier processing power, it may not be the fastest option on the market.

The Flip 2 runs on Android 14, though there is no mention of future updates on the official website. Keeping the device powered throughout the day is a 4,300mAh battery, which supports PD 3.0 fast charging. Nubia claims that the phone can charge from 0 to 100% in just 55 minutes, ensuring that users can quickly get back to using their device.

In terms of durability, the Nubia Flip 2 holds its own with IPX2 water resistance (resistant to light water splashes) and IP4X dust resistance (protected against objects larger than 1mm). These features add to the phone’s ruggedness, making it more practical for everyday use. Additionally, the Flip 2 includes face recognition and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for enhanced security.

Additional Features and AI Capabilities

The Nubia Flip 2 integrates AI-powered features, including a customized assistant that works with popular local apps in Japan, such as Line. A standout AI function is AI reply, which allows the phone to respond automatically when users either misplace their device or choose not to answer calls. This smart functionality adds a layer of convenience for users, especially those always on the go.

Pricing and Availability

The Nubia Flip 2 is priced at ¥64,080 (approximately $410 USD) for the 6GB RAM/128GB storage variant in Japan. The phone comes in three color options: Black, White, and Blue. Sales are scheduled to begin on January 23 at Yahoo! Mobile and other retailers in Japan.
