HMD Atlas Leak Reveals Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 and 5500mAh Battery

HMD Global is gearing up to launch another budget-friendly phone in the US market, following the release of the HMD Vibe earlier this year. The upcoming model, known as the HMD Atlas, was recently leaked by Twitter user @smashx_60, who is known for providing reliable details on HMD’s upcoming devices. The HMD Atlas is believed to be the successor to the Nokia G400, which debuted in 2022.

The leak includes both a sketch and a rendered image of the HMD Atlas, showcasing its design. The phone features a flat body with a rectangular camera module on the back and slim bezels on the front, which houses a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera. The render displays an Olive Green color variant, though other colors are expected to be available as well.

Internally, the HMD Atlas is rumored to come equipped with a 6.64-inch IPS LCD display, boasting a Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The device is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

In the camera department, the HMD Atlas will likely feature a 48MP main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, a 5MP ultra-wide lens, and a depth sensor on the rear. For selfies, it will include a 16MP camera positioned within the punch-hole cutout.

The phone’s 5500mAh battery is expected to support Quick Charge 4.0 technology. Connectivity options will include 5G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, and NFC. Additionally, the phone will offer expandable storage via a microSD card slot, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired audio.

The leaked dimensions of the HMD Atlas are 163 x 75 x 8.75mm, and it is expected to weigh 210 grams. The price for the 8GB/128GB variant is anticipated to be $239.99, though there is no confirmed launch date yet.

HMD Global has recently released several entry-level phones, such as the HMD Pulse trio and the HMD Vibe in the US. The HMD Atlas aims to expand their mid-range offerings, featuring a Full HD+ display and a larger battery compared to its predecessors.

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset in the Atlas will enable 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, and NFC. According to the leak, the device will also retain a 3.5mm headphone jack. The 6.64-inch IPS LCD will support a 120Hz refresh rate, with a 16MP selfie camera housed in a punch-hole cutout.

The rear camera setup will include a 48MP main sensor, a 5MP ultra-wide lens, and a depth sensor, providing a significant upgrade from other recent HMD models. The phone will also have a 5500mAh battery supporting QuickCharge 4.0+ technology, although the exact charging rate remains unspecified.

The HMD Atlas is expected to be priced at $240 and will be available in Olive Green, among other colors. For comparison, the HMD Vibe is priced at $150 and offers lower-end specifications such as 4G connectivity, an HD+ display, and a 13MP main camera without an ultra-wide option. The HMD Atlas is set to be exclusive to the US market, similar to the Vibe.

Further leaks suggest HMD Global is planning to release more devices, including the HMD Ridge and HMD Waylay (budget 5G models), as well as the HMD Xenon and HMD Skyline (high to mid-range 5G models).
