Google Assistant: 17 Features Removed for Improved Reliability

Google Assistant is undergoing significant changes, as outlined in a recent blog post by Google. Starting January 26, the removal of 17 features aims to enhance the overall quality and reliability of the voice assistant service, making it more seamless across devices.

The list of features being discontinued is extensive, ranging from voice-controlled audiobooks on Google Play Books and cookbook management to setting media alarms and stopwatch control on Smart Displays and Speakers. Other features being removed include voice calling devices, sending emails or messages, asking for contact information, and various voice actions like sending payments, making reservations, or posting on social media.

Users attempting to utilize any of these features after January 26 will receive notifications about their unavailability. Most of the features are expected to be completely removed by February 26, as reported by 9to5Google.

Despite these subtractions, Google is not solely focused on removals. The company is refining the Google app’s functionality, allowing it to trigger search responses when users tap the microphone icon. However, it’s essential to note that the microphone icon will no longer control smart home devices or facilitate message sending. Even the Pixel Search bar is undergoing a change, now triggering Voice Search instead of Assistant.

This detailed update underscores Google’s commitment to refining and optimizing the Google Assistant experience, balancing removals with improvements to ensure a more seamless and efficient voice assistant service
