Potential Timing for RCS Message Support on iPhone Revealed by Google

Google might have unveiled the potential timing for when RCS message support will arrive on the iPhone, possibly coinciding with the launch of iOS 18. Apple has already indicated its intention to integrate support for the RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging standard on the iPhone sometime in 2024, and now Google’s landing page for Google Messages, as reported by 9to5Google, suggests that this integration could occur in the fall of 2024, indicating a timeframe of September, October, or November. However, it appears that this specific information has been removed from the landing page, perhaps indicating that Apple prefers to announce such developments on its own terms.
This anticipated timeframe aligns with the expected release of the iPhone 16 and iOS 18, making it logical for RCS support to be introduced alongside Apple’s latest smartphone models and software upgrades, likely to be unveiled at the WWDC 2024 event on June 10.
Additionally, the Google Messages landing page highlights various features available on the Android app, such as dynamic reactions (expected soon with RCS), Photomoji, AI-assisted message composition, spam blocking, end-to-end encryption, and support for Wear OS devices. This overview underscores RCS as a significant advancement over traditional SMS.
With RCS support integrated into the Messages app on iOS, users can expect a smoother communication experience, particularly when messaging individuals on different mobile platforms, although Android users will still appear as green bubbles on iPhones.
