Apple Watch Ultra 3 Rumored to Feature Satellite Messaging and Blood Pressure Monitoring

Apple is preparing to introduce the Apple Watch Ultra 3 in 2025, adding groundbreaking features like satellite messaging and potentially blood pressure monitoring. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the satellite connectivity will enable users to send text messages without relying on cellular or Wi-Fi networks, a major step forward for wearable technology.
The satellite messaging capability builds on Apple’s history of incorporating off-grid communication, which debuted with the iPhone 14 in 2022. Initially limited to emergency use, the feature has evolved to allow texting anyone via iMessage. Now, with the Ultra 3, adventurers can leave their iPhones behind and still remain connected. This innovation makes the Ultra 3 particularly appealing to hikers, divers, and off-grid explorers, offering enhanced safety and convenience.
Apple aims to compete with specialized brands like Garmin by integrating this technology into its wearables. However, it’s still unclear whether Apple will eventually charge for satellite services on the watch. For now, users may enjoy the same two years of free connectivity offered with iPhones.
Health Monitoring Enhancements
The Ultra 3 might also debut a non-invasive blood pressure monitor, although this feature has faced delays. Unlike conventional devices, this sensor would not provide exact readings but alert users to potential hypertension. This feature aligns with Apple’s broader strategy to integrate health-focused technologies into its wearables. A blood glucose tracker is reportedly in development but is unlikely to be included in next year’s release.
Transition to MediaTek Modems
Apple is also planning to move away from Intel modems in favor of MediaTek’s 5G RedCap technology, designed for wearables. This marks Apple’s first collaboration with MediaTek for a major component. RedCap, a streamlined version of 5G, offers lower power consumption, which is ideal for smaller devices like smartwatches. This transition could pave the way for significant performance improvements in future models.
With these updates, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 promises to set a new benchmark for smartwatches, combining rugged functionality with cutting-edge technology. Scheduled for release in September 2025, it is poised to redefine how wearable devices serve adventurers and health-conscious users alike.
