HonorVPurse Review: A Fusion of Style and Productivity

Honor, known for its innovative approach, has introduced a unique device that blurs the lines between fashion and technology – the Honor V Purse. Described by Honor CEO George Zhao as a “phy-digital fashion statement,” the V Purse is not just a foldable phone but also a digital purse with interchangeable straps, offering a distinctive take on the foldable phone concept.

Display and Ergonomics

The 7.71-inch OLED screen, with a resolution of 2,348 x 2,016px, a 10.5:9 aspect ratio, and a 90Hz refresh rate, delivers a stunning visual experience. The outward-folding design minimizes the crease common in other foldables, enhancing the immersive viewing experience. A notable ergonomic feature is a bulge on the side, providing a natural resting position for the hand during use.

Software and Performance

Running on MagicOS 7.2 based on Android 13, the V Purse offers a familiar interface for those acquainted with Honor smartphones. The Magic Wallet feature allows customization of the back part of the screen, displaying interactive designs simulating items found in a real purse. Despite some software optimizations, the device falls slightly behind competitors in terms of foldable-specific features.

Powered by the Snapdragon 778G and equipped with 16GB RAM, the V Purse ensures smooth and snappy performance. While not featuring a flagship chipset, the choice of the Snapdragon 778G proves suitable for the device’s form factor.

Camera Capabilities

The camera setup includes a 50MP main camera with a Sony IMX800 sensor and a 12MP ultrawide lens. The main camera produces detailed shots, although color rendition could be improved. The 2x zoom maintains quality comparable to regular shots. The 12MP ultrawide lens offers less detail and subdued color reproduction.

Battery Life and Charging

Housing a 4,500 mAh battery, the V Purse falls short in battery performance, earning an 8:08-hour rating in the Active Use Score. Charging times with the included 35W SuperCharge adapter are decent, with a full charge requiring 66 minutes.

In summary, the Honor V Purse is a departure from typical folding phones, offering an outward-folding design, dual functionality as a clutch bag, and midrange hardware. While its specs may appear midrange on paper, the premium build, impressive screen, and stable performance distinguish it from the crowd. Priced at CNY 6,000 ($840/€775) with limited availability, the V Purse represents a unique blend of fashion and tech, catering to a specific niche in the market.
