Apple’s Personal Voice: Customizing Text-to-Speech on iPhone, iPad, and Mac to Sound Like You

Apple has added a unique feature called Personal Voice in the latest iOS 17, iPadOS 17, or macOS Sonoma. This program allows you to produce a synthesised voice that sounds like your own, giving your digital interactions a more personal touch.
Personal Voice adds a unique and authentic flavor to your messages, whether you’re connecting with family and friends via FaceTime, phone calls, assistive communication applications, or even in-person chats.

To use Personal Voice, you must have an iPhone 12 or later, an iPad Air (5th generation) or newer, an iPad Pro 11-inch (3rd generation) or later, an iPad Pro 12.9-inch (5th generation) or later, or any Mac with Apple hardware. For security, you’ll also need Face ID, Touch ID, or a device passcode or password.
Developing your personal voice is a simple process. Simply follow the steps below:

On your iPhone or iPad:

  • Launch the Settings app.
  • Select Personal Voice from the Accessibility menu.
  • Choose ‘Create a Personal Voice’ and record your voice by following the onscreen directions.
  • You can pause and resume recording whenever you like.

On a Mac:

  • Go to the Apple menu > System Preferences.
  • Click Accessibility, then Personal Voice.
  • Select ‘Create a Personal Voice’ and follow the onscreen directions to record your voice.
  • You may pause and resume recording sessions, just like on iOS.
  • It’s worth emphasizing that the recording procedure takes place secretly on your device overnight while it’s charging and connected to Wi-Fi.

It’s also simple to control your voice. If you want to get rid of a personal voice,.

  • Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, then hit Accessibility and then Personal Voice.
  • Select and authenticate the voice you want to erase.
  • Tap ‘Delete Voice’ to confirm your selection.
  • On a Mac, go to the Apple menu > System Settings, then select Accessibility and Personal Voice.
  • Select the voice, input your password, and then confirm by clicking ‘Delete Voice’.

Remember that once you remove a personal voice, it cannot be retrieved because it is only stored on the device and is not backed up or saved on Apple servers.
How to Use Your Own Voice
The Personal Voice feature works in conjunction with the Live Speech feature. Simply type with the Live Speech option enabled in the Accessibility settings, and it will speak the written word out loud using your personal voice, which will sound exactly like you.
