Shared by Threads user Daniel Rodriguez, a screenshot revealed this forthcoming addition, which was later confirmed by Threads’ top executive, Adam Mosseri. Mosseri stated, “We’re starting to test this with a small number of people so it’s easier to find relevant search results in real time.”

While this may seem like a subtle adjustment, it addresses a longstanding frustration among Threads users seeking up-to-the-minute information. The absence of a chronological search function has hindered the app’s utility for those interested in current events or trending topics. Although the new filter doesn’t guarantee a fully chronological search, it represents a step forward in surfacing timely content, particularly related to breaking news or trending discussions.

The revealed screenshot showcased the recency filter option specifically for “NBA Threads,” a community actively promoted by Mosseri. Threads has previously faced backlash for restricting political content recommendations and blocking search results for certain topics deemed sensitive, irrespective of rule violations.
