Google To Introduce a New Pixel Feature for Unknown Caller Identification

Google is gearing up to launch a new feature named “Lookup” within the Phone app exclusive to Pixel devices, aimed at assisting users in identifying unknown callers. However, it’s not the Truecaller replacement many were anticipating.

Unlike Truecaller, Google’s “Lookup” operates differently, focusing on initiating online searches for unidentified numbers rather than relying on a pre-existing phonebook database. When Pixel users encounter an unknown number in the Recents tab of their Phone app, they will have the option to select “Lookup,” triggering a search through various installed apps on the device.

Upon selection, a list of available apps capable of conducting web searches will appear, including the Google Search app. Choosing Google Search will prompt search results to display pertinent information related to the unidentified number, aiding users in discerning whether the call originated from a business entity listed online.

It’s worth noting that while Truecaller serves as a comprehensive phonebook application, Google’s Lookup feature is tailored specifically for identifying calls from businesses with an online presence. Personal numbers lacking an online footprint cannot be identified through this tool.

The feature was initially discovered by tech tipster AssembleDebug and has already been incorporated into Pixel devices in Japan following the March 2024 update. With reports suggesting its imminent rollout to other regions, Pixel users can anticipate the arrival of this innovative caller identification feature, enhancing their phone experience.
