Apple is pushing the boundaries of wearable technology, and its upcoming AirPods Pro 3 might redefine what earbuds can do. According to reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the tech giant is working on integrating advanced health-monitoring features like heart rate and temperature sensing into its next-gen wireless earbuds. These features reflect Apple’s ongoing commitment to health and wellness, aligning with its broader ecosystem of health-focused devices.

Health Tracking: Heart Rate and Temperature Sensors

The AirPods Pro 3 are in “early development” and could debut with sensors capable of tracking heart rate and body temperature. This would make health tracking more accessible to customers who may not own an Apple Watch. Gurman reports that while internal testing shows that heart rate data is more accurate on the Apple Watch, the AirPods’ performance in this area isn’t “terribly far off.”

Temperature mapping, a feature already available on the Apple Watch Series 8, is expected to complement heart rate monitoring in the AirPods Pro 3, making the earbuds a valuable tool for fitness enthusiasts and health-conscious individuals.

This new development would allow users to monitor their health during workouts or daily activities seamlessly, offering an alternative for those who prefer not to wear a smartwatch.

Apple’s health innovations are not limited to AirPods Pro 3. The upcoming Powerbeats Pro 2, set for release in 2025, will also feature heart rate monitoring, enhancing fitness tracking. The Powerbeats Pro 2 can connect to gym equipment, such as treadmills, to sync heart rate data, which can be viewed in the Health app on the iPhone.

Apple’s focus on integrating health-tracking sensors across its wearable devices demonstrates the company’s vision for a comprehensive, interconnected health ecosystem.

Exploring AI and Camera Integration

Apple is reportedly exploring other futuristic features for its AirPods. One of the most ambitious ideas is adding small cameras to future AirPods to enable AI-powered capabilities. This project has been labeled a “priority” within the company but is still years away from completion. These AI enhancements could open up new possibilities for augmented reality (AR) and other advanced features.

Although the timeline for camera-equipped AirPods remains uncertain, the fact that Apple has revisited this idea indicates its long-term commitment to pushing technological boundaries in the wearables market.

The AirPods Pro 3 is just one of Apple’s exciting projects. The Cupertino-based company is also reportedly developing a smart doorbell with Face ID technology and working on new features across its product lineup. However, the focus on the AirPods Pro 3 highlights the brand’s dedication to transforming earbuds into multifunctional health and productivity tools.

While the Powerbeats Pro 2 is scheduled for release in 2025, there’s no confirmed launch date for the AirPods Pro 3. However, with these features in early development, consumers can anticipate groundbreaking innovations in the near future.
